Benje Daneman: Co-Director
Jazz trumpeter, Benje Daneman, got his start professionally in 2007 on a national tour with The Doc Severinsen Big Band and has since performed as a sideman and leader at prestigious venues across the nation including The Kennedy Center, The Iridium Jazz Club, Festival of New Trumpet Music, and Baryshnikov Arts Center. An alumnus of Manhattan School of Music, Western Michigan University and The Henry Mancini Institute (Los Angeles, CA), Daneman is also a passionate music educator and has worked as a teaching artist with The New York Pops, Western Michigan University's SEMINAR and Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance (NYC), in addition to giving clinics for all levels of education across the country under his own name. He has co-founded and directed multiple educational programs including of The Jazz & Creative Institute, Kalamazoo Trumpet Workshop, and JazzStart Summer Jazz Workshop. An avid composer, arranger and music copyist, Daneman has received commissions from the United States Air Force Band (in Europe), Spark and Echo Arts (2015 Artist/Composer in Residence) and Redeemer Presbyterian Church (NYC). Additionally, he has collaborated with many composer/arrangers including Dr. Steve Zegree, Peter Prochnow and Roger Treece. In addition to his music and teaching, Daneman works as an arts administrator creating opportunity and managing creative endeavors all across the nation. He has worked with The Festival of New Trumpet Music, jazz pianist Pascal Le Boeuf, Dave Douglas’ Greenleaf Music Record Label and has most recently been named the Education Manager of The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Keith Geiman: Co - Director
Keith Geiman is an active performer, private instructor, and clinician in the Southwest Michigan area. Originally from Sykesville, Maryland, Keith’s musical career began when he started playing the trumpet in the 4th grade. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Towson University and his Master’s in Music Performance from Western Michigan University.
As a performer, Keith holds the position of 2nd trumpet with the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra and, from 2009–2011 served as principal trumpet of the Northwest Indiana Symphony. He is also a member of Kalamazoo Brass, one of Southwest Michigan's premier chamber ensembles. Keith maintains an active freelance career; and has performed with the Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, West Michigan and Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestras, as well as many other Southwest Michigan arts organizations. Keith has also been a featured soloist with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and the Bay View Music Festival Chamber Orchestra.
Keith is a passionate and highly committed music educator and has been teaching privately since his senior year of high school. He is currently the adjunct trumpet instructor at Kalamazoo College. Outside of the college Keith's private studio has grown to over 50 students of all skill levels. His private students repeatedly receive high marks at their District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals, and many have earned membership in the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra. Some of his former students have chosen to major in music and pursue careers in performance and education. (trumpet-guru.com)
